Kathryn Stewart, LMHCA (she/her)
I know it might be hard to believe right now, but you don’t have to feel this way forever. Whether it’s an undercurrent of anxiety and racing thoughts, constant conflict and misunderstandings in your relationship, the pain and grief of loss, the difficulty of life transitions, or feeling unworthy of deep love, I’m here to walk with you into the scary, messy places. You won’t be alone.
Therapy with me means creating a space of safety, warmth and trust. We will work on improving connection with yourself and others and clarifying needs, fears and boundaries. We will ask questions such as: How are you speaking to yourself? What parts of you are being ignored or rejected? What messages or memories may be stored in your body and what grounding tools are needed to be present and listen to them?
Let’s start the learning together about what’s happening in your inner world, under the racing thoughts and daily stress. Because only once you know yourself deeply can you engage with the important people in your life with openness and trust.
Briefly, about me: I’m a queer theatre artist. I grew up on the East Coast. I drink an abundance of coffee and I am a sucker for candles and fairy lights, both of which I have in my office!
My approach to therapy
I believe you should have a therapist you love! Whether working with couples or individuals, I’m bring humor and warmth into the room with me every session. Let’s get cozy on the couch and slow down with the parts of you that need love and care.
I pull from well-researched modalities such as Emotionally Focused Therapy and Internal Family Systems therapy, with a heavy focus on attachment theory and somatics. What this means is: we go together into your inner experience of emotions, thoughts, and body sensations, and spend time understanding ways in which you learned to protect yourself in your past relationships and in your life. Clients who are curious about “why you are the way you are” are going to work well with me.
I work with couples and individuals, both in person and virtually. I feel strongly about working with couples and individuals across diverse racial, ethnic, sexual, and gender identities as well as folx from different socioeconomic backgrounds and ability levels. You are safe here.
